A budget valued at AED 292.5 billion has been approved in the United Arab Emirates for the period 2027-2029 as part of the UAE’s strategy to provide public services, economic development, and financial planning. This budget marks a 28.3% increase from the preceding budget of the three-year period.

In 2027, the government approved expenditure estimated at AED 90.1 billion. Social development and pensions amount to AED 34.6 billion, representing 38.4% of the annual budget. Government affairs are allocated AED 29.1 billion, while federal expenses total AED 17.8 billion. Financial assets and investments amount to AED 5.6 billion, while infrastructure and economic resources amount to AED 3 billion.

The budget allocations show that the government is attempting to achieve a balance between meeting the present public needs and investing in future economic capabilities. Expenditure in health, education, housing, and social services contribute to the well-being of households, while infrastructure and economic resources expenditures may be used to bolster the grounds for businesses.

Public expenditure priorities in the UAE can have implications on business opportunities for certain sectors of activity. Development of infrastructure can contribute to construction and engineering services and other related services. Education and technology expenditure can stimulate demand for IT solutions and related skills and expertise. Focus on healthcare and quality of life can provide business opportunities to those companies that offer healthcare services, healthcare technologies and community solutions.

More advanced planning of government expenditure priorities is valuable for businesses involved in investment decision-making processes. Such advanced planning allows to estimate the demand, prepare bids and make certain business plans. It should be mentioned that diversification of the economy and development of future industries is one of the key principles of the economic strategy of the UAE. Priorities announced by the budget cover economic development, employment, education, healthcare, industry, technologies, energy, infrastructure, culture and sports.

Implementation will prove vital here. The importance of the budget will depend on how well the resources get to the priority programmes, how they are executed, and whether there are any measurable gains in society from the public expenditure.

As far as the UAE is concerned, the budget approved by the Government will be an important guiding principle of development during the coming three years. As for the business and investor community, the budget will help to get an understanding of the focus of the government.
